The MODENA project

Funded by the competitive cluster Pôle Mer, the MODENA project (Modélisation de l’Observation à Distance de l’ENvironnement mAritime) aims to develop an in virtuo simulation platform for maritime safety and security.

The idea is to build a simulation platform in order to study several models interacting within the system. To this end, scientists working in several fields (meteorology, oceanography, …) must pool their respective models so as to accurately recreate the marine environment in virtual reality.

The objective is to create new, intelligent surveillance systems by modeling the interactions between the marine environment (waves, currents, winds, temperatures…) and the sensors and surveillance systems (sonars, radars, …). The new systems will thus be able to take the diversity of the environment’s parameters into account. This modeling tool will also allow for a greater understanding of oceanographic phenomena.
